Located in the foothills of the north Georgia mountains, I maintain a 22'x25' converted garage that is the home of my shop: where projects are given life. Come join the journey of the projects I build from wood, metal, electronics, and whatever else I can get my hands on. Dennis Machida, The Garage Engineer.
Not the Typical Tiller. Can we save it? Part 2.
I picked this John Deere tiller out of tall grass at my sister’s rental property. As I try to revive it, I come across some unique “challenges” to fix. Come on the journey with me as we try and save this neglected tool.
The original video was over 1 ½ hours long, so I decided to split it into 2 videos. This video is part 2 in the series. Watch part 1 first and then come back to watch part 2.

Just used mine this weekend. They are hell for stout!!
Buy a rebuild kit for the deck. $150 and you are done for a while.
I will look in to that! Thanks for watching!
And actually I think you can go get a whole new aftermarket stamped deck for that mower for really cheap as well... like 80 bucks or something... The original Cub cadet though is stupid priced like seven or eight $900... So with the price of all the pulleys spindles blades belts and a new stamp deck you're still going to be around $200 or less...
good idea. when this deck rusts through I might need to do that. Thanks for watching!
I'm thinking your prop shear pin is sheared and your prop isn't able to push the boat. There's often enough friction to spin prop, but not enough under a load. Nice project by yhe way. That motor will move that boat around 9 knots
Good catch. Check out the other videos in the playlist where I come to the same conclusion and repair the problem. Thanks for watching.
I sprayed latex with the same gun, just like any paint that going to be sprayed through a hvlp you need to thin it down and upgrade your reservoir to the spectrum paint canister system, I did a 20% mix regular water works fine.
Great tip. I like the Spectrum upgrade idea. Thanks for watching!
Can you just buy 1x2
You can really use what ever material you have on hand. That is what I did. If you use 1x2 it might be harder to bend in some areas and also adds overall weight. Thanks for watching.
It’s not necessary to count turns turn it all the way in back it out 1 1/2 turns and you’re good to go
True. But I like to see how many turns it was at when it was last used. Not saying that would be the correct amount but good info to know. But yes 1.5 turns is the standard on most machines. Thanks for watching.
Wish you could make me one! I'd buy it
They are fun to make. You should give it a try. Thanks for watching. Plans are available on the website. thegarageengineer.com/shop
Do you have any plans for. Building
Yes. Check out thegarageengineer.com/shop
I’d delete this video if I was you, what an absolute waste of time this video is.
Interesting opinion. Thanks for watching.
This "lawn decoration" would look great with a flower garden planted in it. When do you plan to modify everything about this "boat" and build it out of "sea worthy" materials and construction techniques? At least use plywood that is thicker than paneling and use something other than staples to hold it together. The only thing you did "right" was flashing the seams, although you should have floated those edges.
Hey man would you mind dropping a link for the plywood boat that you built? I'd really like to see the way that you did it.
That is a good use for it too. But it was fun to make and is sea worthy on a lake. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the support. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video, just what I needed, especially the min/max weight of the Stays. Which type of hinge were you using?
I am using the Sugatsune hinge SDS-C301N Here is a link to my Amazon shop for the hinge amzn.to/3bi2l5e So hinges do not come with clear instructions. Here is the US version of the hinge instructions. Hinge Install Instructions www.thegarageengineer.com/plans Good luck and thanks for watching.
Good video! I bought the Bauer band saw for my son, and later was able to get the mounting stands for both of us. I also bought me a Hercules saw and did not have the problems you did with the trigger. However, the last little part of your video addresses my problem with the saw cutting straight vertically. :)
When I bought the stand, HF had not released the Hercules saw yet. That is why I had the Bauer saw. But on the stand box it showed a Hercules saw, so I figured the stand was more set up for the Hercules saw shape. Glad the video helped and thanks for watching.
@@TheGarageEngineer Still working with the saw. It cuts square, front to rear, but the blade 'tilts' and cuts at an angle. Very frustrating!! Any ideas??
A couple things. Usually, although the spindles are greasable, the bearings inside have plastic covers which don't allow the grease to enter. The fix is to disassemble the spindle and remove the seals. Also, due to the bent deck and weld bead, it's important to confirm that the blade tips are actually even with each other to result in a even cut.
That is a very good point. The next time I take the deck off I might remove the plastic covers. I did not show on the video, but I did later check the blade heights and they all surprising were planer. Thanks for watching and adding a great tip.

Dosent always work- if it’s out of ink, it’s out of ink… no matter what you do to it- other than adding more ink- ya can’t get blood from a turnip
True. Thanks for watching.
Agregar medidas y materiales
Los planos y medidas están a la venta en www.thegarageengineer.com/shop. Gracias por ver.
Mostly well done. Bird boxes should have a predator block over the access hole to prevent predators from reaching in and taking eggs or chicks. There should also be 3-4 kerf cuts below the acess hole both out side and inside. These allow easy acess and allows chicks to climb out when they fledge
Good tips. Thanks for watching.
if you aint modifying your tools, you aint living ! well done : )
Good words to live by. Thanks for watching!
I knew it! We've been doing this in my elementary days
Nice.
Nice job!
Thanks. It was a fun project!
I had one when I was in the Boy Scouts.
I wish I knew about them when I was in Boy Scouts. They are very handy.
nope
?
Nice video. Great shots. Cool holster.❤
Thank you for watching. Leather work is always a fun project.
How are you cooling your laser tube? Are you using just deionized water, or have you added anything else instead?
Just deionized water. Lazer is in a conditioned space so no chance of freezing.
@TheGarageEngineer, thank you for your reply! I've noticed that after using deionized water 2 or 3 times, it tends to get a bit cloudy. How can I prevent this? Do you recommend anything like antifreeze or another solution? Of course, always with safety in mind for the laser tube. What do you suggest to avoid this?
@@ChrissRollex I’ve never seen mine get cloudy. I just worry about that the flow is constant and water is chilled. Unless you have issues with cold temps. I won’t worry about the cloudyness.
so much easier to use than the new models in a lot of situatiions
Fun to work on. Easy to get to everything. Thanks for watching.
I tried doing this on our floor standing lamp. The stands and the shelves are all metal. Touching the metal ring attached to that little black box turns the lamp on and off etc. But attaching this ring to the lamp stands does nothing unfortunately.
Es de esas gentes que hacen las cosas y sedan mucho taco son tacones idiots
Directly from Hannu's Boatyard plans ?
possible a variation. I have not seen those plans. thanks for watching
Do you think it could support 20 lbs?
Download the instruction from my website. It is free. It has a chart with weight capacity on it. Or call customer service. They are great about helping with those types of questions.
When you do nonsense instead of buying a powerbank Power Delivery.
But it is fun to design and make. Thanks for watching.
I realize your video was yrs ago.. but I have the same brush cutter.. only difference is the muffler.. but got it running and fuel leaking same way.. funny had a hell of a time removing grease gun from fitting..funny.. but your video is what I needed to so I can get mine going.. thank you
These cutters live forever. Also. I always had my grease gun stick to the nipple all the time and hated it, until I found this grease gun quick connect. here is a link to my amazon store for the quick connect amzn.to/3VoFf4a. Thanks for watching.
I wish you were my neighbor lmao
Same to you. I bet we could make some good stuff. Thanks for watching.
how to buy,,it is available here in dubai?
I got all the items off amazon. Im sure ali express might have same items. good luck.
You don't need $2,000.00 worth of tools to make this. A handsaw, hammer and nails and a cheap drill with a hole saw are all that is really needed.
true. But I was showcasing the design, not the tools. Use what you have to make cool things. Thanks for watching.
Question: When you replaced the trigger assembly with a new assembly you pointed out that it worked, but still leaked air. I'm curious if your self-repaired/modified assembly leaked air when you reassembled it. Thanks for the video. Yes, it was interesting.
That could be. I should have further investigated. But I had the other valve to try. Thanks for watching.
How much Ford the New One?
I don't remember. maybe $40? Thanks for watching.
Shouldn't you at least clean the spark plug, might help, just saying?
Yes that would be helpful. Thanks for watching!
i just came across an old Lightwin and did not really know where to start, but this video is a great help. Thanks
It will be a fun project. Good luck!
You didn't mention the percent alcohol, is the % of alcohol insignificant?
I dont think it matters.. I was using 99%. That would make a good experiment to see the effects of different alcohol percentages on dried out marker rejuvenation.
@@TheGarageEngineer Looks like you were using 91% at 2:06
I would try reducing the fan size.
Good idea.
Entertaining to watch. But as a beginner wanting to build my first birdhouse, a video showing how to do it using $2,000 worth of woodworking equipment and tools isn't very relevant. Thanks.
Technically you only need a circular saw, drill, and hammer. Maybe $200 depending on what brand you buy.
.
Nice video. Cool display. Killer paint job. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Thanks for your support. There were so many fun parts of this build. Painting being one of them.
I'm curious what software you have with your X-Carve? I just got one, and am learning how to use it. I bought V Carve Desktop, and must say I am not impressed with it. For 350 dollars, you can do no 3-D modelling with it (except for canned clipart) and it won't generate toolpaths for small bits (less than 1/8 inch) to give fine detail to your carvings. I am guessing they want to goad you into buying the VCarve Pro for another 350 dollars. But it makes me wonder what THAT version left out, trying to get you to buy Aspire for two grand.
I would work with the desktop version at first to get use to the program and your xcarve . But if 3d carving is your ultimate goal. Then you will need to upgrade to aspire. Vetrics is the best program with the easest to use functions that I have found. A bit tip. Look in to the mini Jenny and regular Jenny bits. Great compression bits made from a small business. Thanks for watching.
All depends on the Thinning and work from there i have done many doors Latex and it comes out find Glossy as.
Good to know. I hate thinning too much but I think I need to go thinner on some of my paints. Thanks for watching.
2k Basecoat or Enamel Gloss Oil Based my Psi is 25 depending on the Compressor if using Clear Coat Psi 30 just need to paly around myself have it down put now.
2k is the best but I don’t have enough projects to justify the upgrade from latex yet. Thanks for watching and thanks for your tips.
Thin it more and get closer to the cardboard
Good tips.
So that is water based paint as if using Oil Gloss enamel would need Turps.
It was latex
Watching this as a teacher 😂
I’m sure you see a lot of dried out markers. Thanks for watching.
